Waichi Sekiguchi graduated from Hitotsubashi University and joined Nikkei in 1982. He currently covers the Japanese IT Industry and cyberspace issues.

Sekiguchi used to be a Washington correspondent during the Bush and Clinton Administrations, covering US trade and government politics. Prior to that he was a research fellow at the Center for International Affairs of Harvard University and a chief writer for The Nikkei Weekly, the English edition of the Nikkei newspaper. He has also written books on the Internet and IT industry. Titles include "Pioneers of Japanese PC Industry," "Technique of Information Search," "Cyberspace Revolution," "The Frontier of Cyberbusiness," "Moderntimes 2001," etc. He is a visiting professor at Hosei University Graduate School and Center for Global Communications, International University of Japan. He also teaches at Waseda University and Meiji University as a part-time instructor.

Since 2009, he has appeared on the TV program "NIKKEI Japan Report," which is a financial journalism program in English created by the Nikkei, as a commentator.
